News News Latest report on young people's activity levels Active Lives Children & Young People Survey Academic Year 2022/23 This update relates to Sport England's sixth annual Active Lives Children and Young People Survey report, summarising the activity levels of 5 to 16-year-olds in England during the academic year 2022-23. Covering September 2022 to July 2023, this year's report highlights some positive changes at a national level. However, the picture is mixed at a local level here in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin. Nationally there has been no change in the number of active children (47%) and the number of less active children has remained stable (30%) Lower affluence groups are less active (44% vs 55% compared to higher affluence groups) although lower affluence groups have seen the biggest increase in activity since pre-pandemic times (44% vs 38%) Shropshire has seen a significant increase in the number of active children (up 7.7% to 53.4%) Activity levels have increased less among primary age children compared to secondary age children which are showing an upward trend in activity levels Telford and Wrekin have seen a significant decrease in the number of active children (down 4.8% to 39.6%) and a significant decrease in the number of less active children (down 4.1% to 39.3%) Years 3 and 4 have the lowest activity levels of all school age groups (40%) and are the only group below the national average Girls continue to have lower activity levels than boys (44% vs 51%) Asian and black children are the ethnic group least likely to be active (40%) Here is the link to the full Sport England Report Manage Cookie Preferences
