Here at Energize STW, we are supporting schools across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin to truly embed physical activity within their culture.

As part of Youth Sport Trust’s National School Sports Week we want to highlight some of the recent activities organised or supported by Energize. National School Sports Week's focus this year is wanting to make sure that all children in the UK are active for the Chief Medical Officers’ recommended minimum time of 60 minutes a day.

Firstly, we have released a new video highlighting the activities in which 1950 pupils have participated at 22 School Games events during the 2022-23 academic year. With 13 School Games events for Secondary Schools and 9 for Primary schools, pupils across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin have been inspired, have engaged and some competitive events have enabled them to practice teamwork and experience friendly success and defeat.

You can watch the video here:

We have received some very positive feedback from pupils saying they:

  • enjoyed participating and trying new activities,
  • working as a team and
  • being with other young people.

Here are a couple of quotes:

"It’s been fun, exciting and challenging"

“I’ve really enjoyed it, it’s been amazing!”

The parents of Year 6 pupils have been invited into school to try short activities with children. The first session will provide easy and cost effective (or free) ways for parents to be active with their children, and to be active as families at home.

This will be followed by parents being served a healthy pasta salad lunch prepared by the Year 6 pupils and then an information sharing session discussing why it’s important for families to be active, free exercise tips to use at home, plus low cost and free activities in the local area.

The day will be delivered by Claire Mansfield, Active Schools Manager at Energize STW, with support from Telford & Wrekin Council and Young Leaders from local secondary Telford Priory School.

A similar session was held previously at Wrockwardine Wood Junior School for Year 3 pupils and their parents, which was well attended and enjoyed by all.
