Shrewsbury Amateur Swimming Club has made use of Sport England’s Active Together Crowdfunding grant available to support local clubs and organisations through times of crisis to help them with recovery, reinvention and building resilience. The club has experienced considerable loss of income following the pandemic and local pool closures.

The grant will be used to support the Club’s general running costs, such as pool hire, replacing old and broken equipment, training opportunities for coaches and volunteers, and providing community swimming events.

Anna, Chair of Shrewsbury Amateur Swimming Club said:

“Due to Covid-19 we have been unable to hold Swim Meets over the past two years which are the financial lifeline that swimming clubs need. In July 2022 we received the devastating news that our local competition pool has had to close due to roof damage and will remain closed for the foreseeable future. This means we are still unable to run our Competition Meets and with no date soon as to when we can hold one again - we have lost more than £15,000 expected income.

Sport England has provided the Active Together funding scheme to help people safely return to being active following the Coronavirus pandemic.

As well as the Active Together Crowdfunding grant, there are grants of up to £10,000 available in match funding for Crowdfunder projects, as part of a Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games package to help community sport and physical activity groups improve places and spaces across the country.

The Places and Spaces fund makes awards of up to £10,000 using National Lottery funding, to help community sport and physical activity groups create or improve facilities in their local area. Working with projects across the country, Places and Spaces is a match-funding initiative, delivered in partnership with Crowdfunder.

Sport England’s Places and Spaces fund is about inspiring participation, diversifying audiences and bringing people together, which we know places and spaces form a big part of.

“We have been working with Nick on our Crowdfunding project and he has been so helpful and supportive.”
